Foamy2025
FOAMY2025 : 14th International Foamy Virus Meeting
September 22-25, 2025
Bordeaux, France
Foamy viruses (FVs) are a particular subfamily of retroviruses and are widely distributed among mammals. They are present in nearly all nonhuman primates, as well as in cats, cattle, horses, and bats, having coevolved with diverse animal species for more than 400 million years. While humans are not their natural hosts, FVs can infect humans through zoonotic transmission, primarily from non-human African, Asian, and neotropical primates. Consequently, research on FVs spans fundamental areas such as cellular, structural and molecular biology, and immunology, with significant implications for human health research. Exploring FV replication strategies and their interactions with host cellular pathways may provide essential insights for developing new antiviral therapies and harnessing FVs as safe and efficient gene delivery systems for human gene therapy approaches.
