Ce mécanisme est très important pour de nombreuses fonctions cellulaires. En effet, le surenroulement ou au contraire le relâchement de l’ADN va impacter les processus de transcription et donc l’expression des gènes. C’est ici que les topoisomérases entrent en jeu. Ce sont elles qui vont modifier la structure de la molécule d’ADN, grâce à des clivages, pour la surenrouler ou la relaxer. Ainsi cela permet de maintenir un équilibre et permet l’expression des gènes ou au contraire leur répression lorsque c’est nécessaire. Grâce à l’utilisation d’antibiotiques permettant d’inhiber ces enzymes, cet article illustre le lien entre l’expression des gènes et leur organisation spatiale.
